On OSX, all the protocols, clients and servers works fine on any other network. All other clients (Windows/iPhone) can use any of these VPN servers and protocols without problem on public-network.The same thing happens using my own VPN server and HMA!'s VPN server. With high-speed internet expanding and e-commerce becoming mainstream, Microsoft wanted to provide Windows users with a basic tool for encrypting their data, and that’s pretty much what the team created. It doesn't matter which protocol I use, at least all of these protocols does the same: PPTP, OpenVPN and L2TP over IPSec PPTP was created in the 1990s by engineers from Microsoft, Ascend and a group of mobile telecommunications providers such as Nokia. This is from /var/log/syslog: Jun 11 07:27:22 aspire pppd 32221: CHAP authentication succeeded Jun 11 07:27:22 aspire pppd 32221: LCP terminated by peer (MPPE required but cannot negotiate MPPE key length) Jun 11 07:27:22 aspire pptp 32232: nm-pptp. It doesn't matter which client I use, all of the following does the same: OSX system client, HMA! Pro VPN and Shimo I cannot connect to my PPTP VPN server, even though the CHAP authentication succeeds. It doesn't matter which Mac I use, it still disconnects.Option 2: Use Shimo or PrimoVPN, a commercial VPN client application. I have performed several tests and this is the result: Option 1: Set up the PPTP connection from the command line. When connecting to my own VPN server on a specific network, called public-network, my Mac disconnects the VPN connection after 2 minutes and 30 seconds. ![]()
